“I have always had a good idea of what I liked wearing and how to wear things but somewhere between having a baby and working fulltime I lost the energy and time to think about what I was wearing. My old fallbacks of t-shirts and jeans no longer worked for where I was in life and, being small, shopping for more “grown-up” clothes made me feel like I was borrowing someone else’s outfit. “I live in Tanzania where it is very difficult to buy and put together a complementary wardrobe. Looking towards forty, I felt like everything I owned was outdated, didn’t fit, was a mismatch of bits and pieces from different countries and different times in my life. My clothes didn’t give off the sort of style and maturity I wanted in my personal and professional life. I felt that I could look better in some different styles and colours, but I didn’t know where to start shopping or what to look for. I also HATE shopping, really dislike spending money on clothes and don’t have a strong sense of style, and work in a conservative environment which requires a specific dress code, and Tanzania is generally 25-35 degrees and humid. On top of all of this, I want to know that my clothing is responsibly and ethically made both in the manufacturing and that the fabrics are natural fibers and not contributing towards plastica pollution and fast fashion. WHEW, what an ask!
I signed up for the ‘new client’ package and Candice did amazingly. It is so intimidating to undress and try on clothes in front of a stranger, but Candice was so kind and only made me feel confident and beautiful. The 4 stores she picked for us to shop at were great, and not stores that I knew about, so that knowledge of where to shop made a big difference (I have previously shopped exclusively at Woolies since I was 15 which doesn’t lend itself to much variety in style). The pre-shop made such a big difference, it was so great to go to a store and be given a rack of clothes that were in my size and colours and matched with things that we had previously bought and not have to look through the racks, and it meant I only had to spend 1.5-2 hours in the stores each shop, which is about my maximum tolerance limit. This meant I could rather spend time doing fun things with family and friends, extra hours at my job or doing other admin work that I need to get done when I go back to SA, but still walk away with a new wardrobe for 4-6 hours of my time. I have really appreciated the style summary photos that Candice gave me, putting together a complete capsule wardrobe. It’s a god send to open my phone and look at some outfit ideas that are tailored for me rather than um and ah over a mismatched wardrobe, or wear the exact same thing over and over and over again. I am very happy with the new clothes I have and feel confident in them and a better version of myself and my style, not like I am ‘faking’ a styled version of me. The best part of the whole experience though was getting to know Candice herself. She is a lovely person, kind and warm and just a perfect person to help with something like this. She is super well qualified and is an expert in colour, texture, designers, fabrics etc. It was a pleasure to work with her and I can only say a massive thank you to her for the help and highly recommend her services for anyone who is looking to refresh their image and their wardrobe.”
